Prototype Info.
A total of 12 four-wheel trailers were built between 1929 and 1942 coded GT. They were built to increase parcel capacity of railmotors. They were constructed on light steel underframes and were a closed timber van with a 1.4m wide louvred sliding door on each side, with plain timber paneling either side of the doorway and louvres on the ends of the sides.
The first four cars entered service in September 1929 with a fifth in December of the same year. These cars were numbered 71-75 and were allocated to Dubbo, Moree, Cowra, Narrandera and Wagga Wagga but after overhauls in the mid thirties these allocations changed.
Three more vans were built in 1939 on the timber underframes of former KY wagons. These were cars 77-79. The last of the cars, 76, 82 and 83 were built in 1942 these being on steel underframes. Records show that car no. 72 appears to have been fitted with a timber underframe and car 80 was an open van.
The cars caried varied colour schemes over the years to match the CPH motors. Nos. 75, 78 and 79 carried silver and blue, while others had varying shades of khaki, but most seem to have been painted Tuscan red.
This model is based on GT 73 and GT 83, The later currently preserved at the NSWRTM at Thirlmere. Although most of the cars were identical, several details varied between cars like the location of the conduit for electric lighting etc.
